I want everyone that stumbles across pink truth to also look at www.ptlies.com. Those negative pink truthers don't care about "saving" you from evil Mary Kay. They are just looking to validate thier failure. Mary Kay is a great business. Just don't go past the recommend full store to win stuff. Have the fortitude to say no when you need to and not make excuses when you laid around in your jammies all day. Be real and you can create a great retail business with a lot less risk then a regular brick and morter store.

To the person who commented about the Nigerian Mary Kay consultants. What you have stated is true. This is the reason I am no longer considering being a part of Mary Kay.
These women, in my opinion, are the lowest of the lowest. Many profess to be good Christian women when in fact they are no better than common thieves. They deceive any who come into their in order to "fill their own pockets with money." May they one day get just what they deserve. Another thing, I am quite sure that Mary Kay the company knows what is going on and "looks the other way."

While directors are "supposed" to be the only ones who can recruit outside the U.S., there is a huge Nigerian group that has the products sent to them from U.S. sales directors. The U.S. directors are in the top 20 of their Seminar (Ruby) because of the illegal sales. This was addressed by top executives at Seminar, so it's real and actively being done.

I just started few weeks ago. I've asked a lot of people and this is what I'm running into: everyone's using Mary Kay and the customers/people I've approached are getting their products at 50% off through a Mary Kay IBC. So, I asked how is that possible & I learned that a lot of Mary Kay IBC are in to MK for personal use & all they care is to meet the required minimum order so they extend the 50% discount to their customers/friends to meet the minimum required order. This being said, how are we/am I going to beat that offer? I'm here to build the business & if everyone can get there Mary Kayproducts at 50% off, why would they come to me?
Your honest opinions/experiences is really appreciated. I can also be emailed at newMK08@yahoo.com

This doesn't have to be posted. I just want an answer to this question:
What is the recommendation "toss out" date for products? I was given a product at a party that expired over one year ago. It had never been used and was in a pump. However, it smelled old.

Hello everyone,
I'm Ebony "The Dazzling Diva" Williams, a 21yr old female & just an insight on the way my business is going for me is the following: Before I got into this "wonderful" business Mary Kay I didn't know one thing about it. My thoughts on it was it was similar to "avon" just a little chuck change in the consultants pocket nothing major. It wasn't until after me & my mom was invited to a debut of a new consultant for mary kay that I found out that this business is a world-wide national recognized business. Listening to the beautiful women there and their excitment for their involvment with mary kay, it got me to thinking. "Why didn't anyone tell me sooner about this beauty self-owned job opportunity?" After the debut I was like "how do I get into the business!" I was a beauty consultant for only 4 days & got my 1st recruit, can you get excited? So I'm listening to my director and my team leader about "working your business"...the encouraging words of these women are what makes you want to achieve those goals that you have always wanted for yourself but never knew how to go through to get to the finish line. But all the time this is going on & before it even happened I was having a small pity party for myself. Before I signed up for Mary Kay I quit my job for another job that I thought was benefiting me so I can continue with school full time & also get my cosmetology license. A wk & a half into the new job I was fired w/o an excuse of why. I was also rejected from the university I was looking to attend & didn't know how I was going to pay for cosmetology school w/o a job. Being the type of person I am I do not like to take orders from a person who I am so aware I know their job & my own. I knew I couldn't take working for a company where I didn't want to be or do the rest of my life. I had to do what everyone in mary kay was talking about...WORK MY BUSINESS!!! Now I'm still working my business but its a working process like anything else but the difference is this...when you put your heart into what you do & its for a purpose that you strive for all your life its going to be ups downs & runarounds that come with that marvelous thing SUCCESS!!!! I can honestly say it was nothing but God who directed me into this business. It has been a awsome educational ride! The key to this business is Consistance!!!!

Selling Mary Kay is great if you live in a rural, sparsely populated area with few department stores. If you live in the New York City area where you can go to Sephora, Bobbie Brown, MAC, Shiedo, etc. it can be a hard sell. I used to sell Mary Kay in an area in New York City inundated with Consultants. It goes without saying I didn't do very well. Hats off to those gals who are successful. My heart goes out to those like myself who lost money (over 10K). I still have tons of Mary Kay products left over many of which have passed their expiration date. Good luck to those of you wanting to try it. I never want to see anything Mary Kay ever again.

HI! I am also a Mary Kay consultant and I LOOVE what I do. I really love making other people feel good about themselves! Amd I love our products. This might sound sales pitchy, but Mary Kay Products is the ONLY cosmetic line that doesn't make me break out! It actually helps my skin! But there are tons of other consultants out there which in my opinion, make it hard to recruit! If you would like to be on my team let me know! I will help you succeed!

I also want to say one more thing. There are two sides to every story. I see a lot of "pink truth" like Mary Kay or Mary Kay Corporate has something to hide. It doesn't.
There are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who only want to recruit individuals for their own benefit, not to benefit Mary Kay or to build their own team and to benefit the actual RECRUIT. I will be the first to tell you that. But remember, not everyone is like that.
I will offer the opportunity to someone who doesn't have the start up -- even $100 -- because I know IF they have the personality to be successful and I WANT to work with them, they CAN do it. But I don't just randomly go and tell ANYONE about the opportunity. Yes, it's a fabulous opportunity, but it's not for everyone.
And if you are not taught or not nurtured, I can see where failure may come into play and people turn bitter. But just remember, that doesn't mean that is everyone's story. Two sides to a story.
Peace out!

I wanted to address this question:
I am emailing you because I have a good friend who sells Mary Kay products and has sort of got me interested in selling, if anything for the discounts that I can get and the possible extra cash over the summer when I am off from my full time job.
>
> However, I know that I would not be as dedicated as she is, (she does at least 15 hrs a week + full time job) but I would be willing to buy the catalogs and set up a web-page, for the heck of it just to see what happens. My question is would it be worth it to do this, or should I scrap the idea all together?
YES, it would be worth it. For $100 with your starter kit and $25 to keep your website going for one year (a write off), it is worth the time and effort. You wouldn't even need to buy the Mary Kay catalogs (we're not like Avon) if you didn't want to. We have an awesome FREE site with hundreds of marketing ideas (free!) that will help you promote and sell your business, and all of this is free. You don't have to purchase anything. The website and your $100 starter kit.
The key would be, when people DO purchase product and you don't start with inventory, you'd have to order it. When you order, you always have a flat $8.75 shipping fee. Whether you order $2, $200, $2000, it doesn't matter, it's always $8.75, so you would have to take that into consideration.
But to take advantage of the discounts and promote your Mary Kay biz for internet purchases? I see no reason why not. I am always shocked to see how the product sells itself. To be completely honest with you, I think if Lancome, Estee Lauder or Clinique sold like us, they'd be just as successful. Why? Because women LOVE cosmetics and when you have a FABULOUS product, the product sells itself. Not to mention our prices are MUCH better/more competitive than the competition.
I have been selling Mary Kay since October of 2007 and have been wildly successful just by following a lot of these marketing ideas. I'd be happy to help anyone out who has any questions or needs help jump starting their business.

As for the lady in Nigeria... Only a national director can recruit out of their country. You can contact Mary Kay corp. for more info.
I've been a Mary Kay products consultant for 2 yrs and I love it. Let me say it is work. Money doesn't just come rolling in or falling out of the sky. In my opinion, you must go to training to be sucessful. No one is born a beauty consultant. You must also be disciplined to work any home based business !! Sitting on the couch watching soaps doesn't pay regardless of the product ! You have to market yourself. There is not a "batman" sign above your house saying "Mary Kay sold here" !
But it does allow you the flexibility to set your own schedule, be your own boss and move at your own pace.
The Mary Kay products are outstanding and the company backs them 100%. returning product does not cost us a single cent either.
We do not have territories. If you are in the US, you can sell anywhere in the US.
I love it and my skin has never looked better !

Hi.
The posting from Lori on Jan 7th- To be a Mary Kay consultant you have to purchase the starter kit for $100 plus your local sale tax and $8.75 shipping. That's it. I used to work in Corporate 10 years ago and left once I had my first child. The only work I do now is Mary Kay. It is possible to replace your corporate income and not work as much. I work about 15- 20 hours a week while my kids are in school.
If you want more information you can email me at mksusan@cox.net
To work in Mary Kay means you need to book and hold appointments. Appointments should last about 1 hour. To be more profitable you want to have 3 to 6 women there at each appointment. The work comes in with finding women to book the appointments. You do not have build a team if you don't want to.
Most women in this business fail because they don't book the appointments or stop after a few appointments where their sales were low and they aren't willing to go out and talk to women they don't know. I go out everyday for 1 - 2 hours (sometimes with my young children) and talk to women I don't know and get 5 new names. Is it hard- only if you let fear get the best of you. It's a skill you have to learn and pratice. You also need to go to your success meetings where you get TRAINING!! When women don't go they don't succeed because they don't get the training they need to do this business. There is a laid out proven plan on how to succeed, and those that fail, usually don't do the work and they don't get the training and they blame everyone but themselves for the failure. Harvard Business School has done case studies on the Mary Kay Business plan. It's been proven that it does work. A 22 year old became a National Sales director in 4 years of signing her agreement. A 23 year old became a National Sales Director in 3 years of signing her agreement. They worked- 5 new names a day, got 2 bookings a day only did 30- 40 faces a month. When you get 5 new names a day- that's 35 new names a week but out of that only about 10 to 15 may actually book appointments. Out of those 10 bookings you may only have 5 or 6 hold. So you have to get new names every week when you are first starting, but from all those appointmetns that hold you book more from the women at the appointment so you don't have to go out and get new names. There are women who have become sales directors in 21 days. Then there are those who take 12 years.
I have to say the information about being a consultant on this page is incorrect. There are NO TERRITORIES! You can work anywhere in the United States. If you find there are too many consultants in your area you aren't asking enough people. There is enough people for everyone.
Inventory is not required to be a consultant. Although it's harder to run a business that way. No matter what level you are- new consultant, Sales Director or National Sales Director, you earn 50% of everything you sell. Also, you earn company Quarterly prizes starting with 1800 wholesale.
You do not have to purchase $600 to $4800 of inventory (which is wholesale not retail). The company gives you up to $700 retail free if you decide to have inventory- you can do this your first or 2nd month. After that you lose the bonus. If you decide to have inventory within your first 15 days you get an additional $111 retail along with the other bonus. If you do or don't start with inventory the company has a 90% buy back guarentee. They give you 1 year to try it out and if you thought it was a bad idea you can return the inventory and starter kit to the company and they give you 90% back of what you paid. But you can never be a consultant again if you send everything back.
I have a team of women and some bought $600, $1800, $2400 and $3600 and some have only bought as their customers need it. I had women sign the agreement and never purchase anything. After 12 months you are automatically terminated by the company if you don't purchase inventory. You can resign for $20. If you decide to have inventory the minimum for your first inventory purchase is $200 wholesale- so you get $400 retail. After that you order as you need it whether it's 1 lipstick or $700 wholesale. You automatically profit 50% of everything you sell from day one!
Qualified, Active, Inactive, Terminated-
A Qualifed consultant is one that purchase $600 wholeale within the 1st Seminar year of signing her agreement. You don't have to purchase it all at once! Seminar year is July -June.
An Active Consultant is one that purchase $200 wholesale every 3 months.
Inactive Consultant hasn't purchase after the 3rd month of active status and has 3 months of inactive status before Termination Status. Termination status means a consultant hasn't purchased within 6 months of her last order. You have 6 months of Termination status before you are terminated as a consultant. To be reinstated as an Active consultant you need to purchase $200 wholesale at anytime before you are permantely terminated.
The commissions are incorrect for team building. An independent Consultant has 4 career levels before Sales Director.
Senior Consultant earns 4% commission from the company profits not her team member. She has 1-2 team members.
Star Recruiter- earns 4% commisson from the company profits not her team members. She has 3-4 team members and begins earning an additional $50 bonus for each new qualifed team member starting with the 4th team member.
Team Leader- earns 9% or 13% commission from the company profits not her team members. She has 5-7 team members, earns the $50 bonus for each new qualified team member and can begin to earn the 1st career car. You need 12 active (not qualifed) team members and a combined entire team of 13 wholesale of $18,000 within 4 months. You can only contribute $4000 wholesale. The team must contribute the remaining $14,000. You earn a choice of one of two cars or the cash ($375 per month for 2 years).
Future Independent Sales Director- You earn 9% or 13% commission from the company's profits not your team members. You have at least 8 team members. You get the $50 bonus for each new qualified team member. You can begin to earn the 1st career car or the cash compensation. You can choose to submit for Sales Director but you don't have to.
Director in qualification- You have to have a minimum of 8 active (not qualified) consultant to submit for Director. If accepted by the company you have 4 months for you and your 8 team members to build to 30 women and have $16,000 combined group wholesale. A DIQ can only contibute $4000 to the $16,000. Her unit of 30 must contribute the reamining.
A Sales Director earns 4%, 9% or 13% on her personal team and 9% or13% on her unit - that's up to 26% commission from the company's profits not her team members. Because the director is part of the unit she also earns commission on herself. Plus She now gets $100 bonus for each new personal qualified team member. Personal team members are ones that the director recruits. The Director can now start to earn the 2nd career car or earn the 3rd (pink cadillac) or instead earn the $500 or $900 per month cash compensation for two years. Monthly $500 Unit volume bonus, $500 unit development bonus, $1000 Contest bonus. There is now a health bonus that can be use for health insurance or fitness programs. Directors get Term life insurance, Disability award program. Directors get lots of other bonuses basedoffspring units also. But no one is ever required to purchase inventory each month. IT'S OPTIONAL! If someone is telling someone they have to order it's wrong.
Directors also have 4 different commission earning levels and then they submit for National Sales Director. Again the company has to approve it and if accepted has to meet requirements of her personal unit and offspring units. National Sales Directors also gets a retirement program that the company pays for- not her offspring units, not her consultants. It comes from the company profits and is paid over 15 years from her retirement. If she dies within those 15 years her family is paid that retirement for the remainder of those 15 years.
And finally, Mary Kay started this company with the philosophy of Faith First, Family Second and Career Third. She wanted to give women the opportunity to earn an executive income while being able to be there for her family and faith. With quaility products and a proven business plan, women are creating lives most only dream of. We celebrate 45 years of her dream for women. I am proud to be of her dream for the past 11 years.

I keep hearing from everyone that you need to "work the business" in order to succeed. (?) What exactly does that mean. I currently have a full time (55 hours per week-office manager) and an 11 month old at home. My husband and I have just enough with our (2) jobs to get by. I want a change and I want to be home with our daughter. Unfortunately, we do not have money to invest....the $100.00 Mary Kay starter kit we can purchase but, we do not have the funds to carry an inventory. Is this something that could get me out of my Corporate job given my current situation?

My husband and I were going to purchase a new home but when we found our dream home we found out closing was going to cost over 2000 more than what we had and we only had 3 weeks left to come up with the money and to stay on track paying all of the bills we had. While I was at my real estate agents office her manager overheard my husband and I talking about how we were going to come up with the extra money. Neither of us wanted to have to borrow from our parents or family. She told me about the Mary Kay opportunity and we thought, hey its worth a shot and only 100 to sign up and if at the very least I would get the products I was already using so why not. Well, I signed up and within that first 3 weeks we were able to make closing, catch up on all of our bills and I made enough to open a full store of my own! I have now been selling Mary Kay for a month and I make more than my husband and I only work part time! I am able to be home with my children when there home and I can do my housework while on the phone. It is the best job in the world! And I love every min of it! I have shared my story with others and the lady that signed me up had only been doing it for 6 months and now (a month later) she is a Sales Director and I am a team leader getting my first car and only one team member away from DIQ!!! The greatest thing about Mary Kay is its such an amazing job and so much fun, I would do it for FREE! Its just like when we were little girls doing each others makeup, nails, and hair. Its FUN! Thank you Mary Kay Ash for making our dreams come true!

I am a Mary Kay consultant. The only problem that I have with the whole deal is that there seem to be new products , new packaging and new colors every other week. We are expected to go out with the old and in with the new. I am a single parent trying to make this work, and to have to spend thousands a year on Mary Kay Products to break even really bites.
